Introduction :

Thrissur is often called the cultural capital of Kerala. The town is built around a hillock top. Its most prominent feature is the Vadkkumnathan Kshethram or temple which has Shiva as it presiding deity. Adi Sankaracharya is supposed to have spent his last days in this temple.

Physiography :

54 km long coastal area, South East corner of the District bounded by Tamil Nadu. Mountains-Machad, Paravattani, Palappalli, Kodeswary & Athirappilly. The periyar, The Chalakkudy, The Karuvannur and The Ponnani(Bharatha Puzha) are the main river systems in the District.
